Femme Music, the Indian independent label set up to sign only women artists, has given worldwide distribution of its three imprints to Community Music, a Melbourne company that is part of UNIFIED Music Group. The deal was announced on 30 October. It covers Nyima Records, Tala Root Records and 34 Beats, and Community Music will place their releases on the major streaming services, the label said.

Sanoli Chowdhury and Vinod Gadher run Femme Music together. By the label's account, the agreement started with a meeting between Chowdhury and Jaddan Comerford, who founded both UNIFIED and Community Music, at the All About Music conference in Mumbai earlier this year. The slot was for 20 minutes. It went on for 90.

"Having the right distributor is a big deal," Chowdhury said in the announcement. Gadher listed "independence, global reach and a long-term view" as the things the label wanted for its artists. Comerford said he knew "straight away" after meeting Chowdhury that the two companies should work together.

Community Music is young itself. It started in 2024 and pitches itself to independent musicians as a distribution and artist services company.

The earlier arrangement

When Femme Music launched in November 2025, Chowdhury told The Hindu the label had partnered with AWAL for global distribution. The new announcement does not mention AWAL. It also gives no financial terms and no date from which releases start going out through Community Music.

The catalogue so far

Nyima Records is the singer-songwriter imprint. Its first compilation, Nyima Vol. 1, was announced for 28 November 2025 with 11 artists, among them Ro Maiti, Tabitha Kagoo and Kokum. Nyima, Vol. 2 followed on 2 October 2026, also 11 tracks, and this time the songs came through an open call. Wild City reported that the second volume moved beyond English: the Apple Music listing opens with Shruthy Parthasarathy's Tamil song "Theera Kadal" and includes Priyanka Shinde's Hindi track "Uljha Jia" alongside English songs by ivy sood, Zui and Mirael Lia.

Another label working across languages, Believe India's BL/UR imprint, was the subject of our October analysis. More label news is on Business, and new independent releases are on Indie.
