Diljit Dosanjh Opens Aura At JLN With Nusrat Songs, Old Favourites And A New Daddy Yankee Track

The Delhi show started late in the rain and ran past two hours; that morning, Diljit and Daddy Yankee had put out 'Pokito', a Punjabi and Spanish single.

Diljit Dosanjh walked on at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at about 7.40 pm on Friday, after rain and slow entry had pushed the start back, and played for two hours and twenty minutes. It was the first night of the India leg of his Aura tour.

The stage was wet, he told the crowd early on, and he would have as much fun as he could anyway. At the end he looked up and thanked the clouds.

What he sang

No official set list has been published, so this is what was reported from the floor and what Diljit said beforehand.

In his pre-show video he promised one song and ruled out another. "Sanson Ki Mala", the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan number he sang at Wembley, was in. "Jind Mahi" was not, though he sang a few lines of it in the video to make the point.

Reports from inside the stadium put Nusrat material in the set, "Sanson Ki Mala" among it, along with "Khuda Gawah" and a run of his own hits.

He also made room for the older catalogue, and said so. "These songs are for my old fans, the new ones might not know this," he said before one of them.

Between songs he took gifts from fans, posed for photos and brought people up on stage, where his team had return gifts boxed and ready. A drone formation over the stadium spelled out his catchphrase, "Panjabi Aa Gaye Oye!".

The single that came out the same day

Hours before the show, Diljit and Daddy Yankee released "Pokito". It runs 3 minutes 57 seconds, opens with Diljit's Punjabi verse and then hands over to Daddy Yankee in Spanish. The hook is "Poquito a poquito", little by little.

The track sits on Daddy Yankee's new album LA POSTAL, and the video was directed by Stillz.

"I always believed that Punjabi music and reggaeton would make for a great marriage," Daddy Yankee said in a statement. Diljit's own post called it a trip "from India to Puerto Rico and from Puerto Rico to India".

It adds to a long list of crossovers for him, from "Hass Hass" with Sia to "Buck" with Jackson Wang.

Where the tour goes next

Diljit has said Delhi will not get another of his concerts until 2028. The tour moves on to Indore on 15 November, Ahmedabad on 21 November, Mumbai on 27 November, Bengaluru on 29 November and Lucknow on 5 December, with Chandigarh and Kolkata still to be dated. Our guide to getting to JLN is in the Delhi traffic and Metro story, the permission back and forth is in our earlier report, and more is on the Bollywood page.
