Ramayana has a new song. T-Series put out "Mangal Rang" at 9 am on Sunday, 25 October. A.R. Rahman composed, produced and arranged it. Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal sing it. Kumar Vishwas wrote the words.

It is new to fans. The soundtrack album that T-Series released on 21 October had five tracks, and "Mangal Rang" was not one of them. By Sunday afternoon the official video had passed 5.6 million views on the T-Series channel.

Holding a song back from the album and dropping it with a full video close to release is a familiar label move in Mumbai. It gives the film fresh music to sell in its final fortnight, and this one has the soundtrack's two biggest voices on it.

The wedding song

This is the film's wedding number. The video opens in Mithila at Sita's swayamvar, where Ranbir Kapoor's Rama goes for Shiva's bow. Then comes the ceremony, with Sai Pallavi's Sita walking to the mandap beside her three sisters, and the couple's return to Ayodhya.

"There is a certain purity and tenderness in the relationship between Rama and Sita that I wanted the music to hold on to," Rahman said in a statement. "Some stories don't need to be explained; they simply need to be felt."

Arijit said the melody "took me somewhere beyond words, into a space where love blossoms in its purest form". He called singing it "a deeply transformative experience". Shreya said the couple's love "goes beyond the happiness of being together".

Second duet on the soundtrack

It is the pair's second song for the film. Arijit and Shreya also sing "Jai Jai Ram", the album opener. It is also a new film song from a singer who stepped away from playback in January.

The Tamil version arrived at the same time on T-Series Tamil. "Mangala Vanname" is sung by Abhay Jodhpurkar and Saindhavi, with lyrics by Karthik Netha.
