Nivas K Prasanna's 'Iruvar' Is Out, With Lyrics By Vijay Sethupathi And Vocals By Aditi Shankar
Saregama Originals released the Tamil single on 4 November, a Kumaran-directed musical with Sooraj Santhosh and Aditi Shankar singing Vijay Sethupathi's words.
'Iruvar', a Tamil single composed by Nivas K Prasanna with lyrics by Vijay Sethupathi, went up on the Saregama Tamil YouTube channel as a lyrical video at about 5.28 pm IST on 4 November. The upload showed roughly 194,000 views on the evening of 5 November, IST.
Sooraj Santhosh and Aditi Shankar sing it. Kumaran, who directed the 2019 film Jada, conceived and directed the piece, and StoneBrook Films produced it. Saregama released it under its Originals banner on the day the company filed its September-quarter results. Cine Messenger lists Thegidi and Oh My Kadavule among Nivas K Prasanna's earlier film credits.
Credits
The credits on the video card, with a few additions from press reports, read as follows:
- Music: Nivas K Prasanna
- Lyrics: Vijay Sethupathi
- Vocals: Sooraj Santhosh and Aditi Shankar
- Conceived and directed by: Kumaran
- Producers: Vinoth Kumar, Pushpakala and Kumaran, for StoneBrook Films
- Editing: Deepak. Art direction: Jai Murugan. Additional keyboard and rhythm production: Hevin Booster. The last three come from Cinema Express and Cine Messenger.
The lyricist
ABP Live Tamil described the song as Vijay Sethupathi's introduction as a lyricist. Cinema Express and Cine Messenger both credit him with the words without calling it a first, so the description comes from that one outlet.
What the director said
In a statement to the press, quoted by Cinema Express, Kumaran said he wanted to "explore another dimension of storytelling" after Jada, and that music "has the extraordinary power to communicate emotions that sometimes cannot be expressed through dialogues." Cine Messenger described the piece as built around love and relationships, telling its story through the song and its visuals rather than through spoken scenes.
