John Legend's 'Muse' Is Out: 16 Tracks, All Produced By Pharrell
John Legend and Pharrell wrote and recorded 'Muse' in Paris after more than 20 years of friendship, and it came out on Friday through Republic Records.

Sixteen tracks, one producer. John Legend's new album Muse came out worldwide on Friday 23 October through Republic Records, and Pharrell Williams produced and co-wrote all of it. He also sings on six of the songs.
The two have been friends for more than two decades and had never made a full record together. Muse is Legend's first studio album since My Favorite Dream in 2024, and it is on the major streaming platforms in India from Friday. He played Mumbai and Gurugram in March 2023.
Made in Paris
The sessions began in January 2025 at Pharrell's studio inside the Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris, where he is men's creative director. The idea came from a guest vocal Legend recorded for another Pharrell production. Pharrell heard it and decided to build a whole record around that voice.
The reference points are Nina Simone, Nat King Cole and Marvin Gaye, and the label lists gospel, standards, doo-wop, soul and Afrobeat among the strands. "Pharrell's idea from the beginning was that we would create something with all of these classic, cinematic elements, this Black James Bond aesthetic," Legend said, "but with a modern backbeat at its foundation."
Ballads aside
Legend, who has 13 Grammys and is one of the few artists to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony, has built most of his audience on piano ballads. "I wanted to shake up the formula and do something fresh and new," he said.

He also gave up more control than usual. "I recorded some songs on this album that he fully wrote, which I almost never do," he said.
The title track opens the album. "Daylight" was the lead single, released on 8 September with the announcement, and "Pray For Ya" was first heard on the runway, as the soundtrack to Louis Vuitton's Fall-Winter 2026 men's show. The album closes on "Sail Off".
